MARKET FORTUNE®
In Market Fortune, you're building a portfolio of investments while disrupting your opponents' plans through a shared strategy deck. The first player to form 4 investments worth 25M or more wins.
How It Works
Each player starts with 8 Construction Cards — 4 Stocks ($) valued 1M–5M across 12 industries, and 4 Returns (R) valued +1M to +5M. On your turn, you perform exactly one action: Build (draw and swap a construction card to improve your hand), Risk (pair a Stock + Return of the same industry logo, roll the Fortune Die to lock in the investment), or Dominate (draw a Strategy card to attack, defend, or modify the game state).
The Fortune Die has 4 positive faces and 2 negative. Roll positive and your investment is placed face-down — hidden from all opponents until someone declares victory. Roll negative and both cards return to your hand. A successful investment also triggers Momentum: draw one Strategy card immediately.
The Strategy Deck
60 cards in 4 colors, each with different activation timing. Red cards (instant) play on your turn — steal investments with Shrewd Move, wipe the board with Market Crash, or bypass the die entirely with Fortune. Blue cards (reactive) fire when you're attacked — Diamond Hands blocks multiple threats, Wrong Analyst reflects the attack back. Green cards (modifier) alter investment values at key moments. Yellow cards (permanent) are revealed at game end for surprise scoring — Diversification King adds 8M if your 4 investments span 4 different industries, Booming Industry doubles (or triples) same-logo investments.
The interplay between attack and defense creates constant tension. You can see how many investments opponents have, but never their values. A player with 3 small investments might look dominant while sitting at only 12M — well short of the 25M threshold.
What Keeps It Interesting
The 8-card hand limit is always active. As you lock investments face-down on the table, your hand shrinks, making you more vulnerable. A player with 3 investments has only 2 cards in hand. One Market Crash and they lose everything — unless they've been holding a blue defense card, burning a precious hand slot for exactly this moment.
Catch-up mechanics are built into the card design. Lucky Investor only works if you're in last place. Federal Audit lets trailing players peek at a leader's strategy hand. Several attack cards specifically target players with more investments. Leaders are never safe, but the trailing player always has options.
Portfolio Optimization lets you swap cards between your hand and face-down investments at any time without spending a turn — including right before declaring victory. This creates a layer of hidden planning that rewards careful hand management across the entire game.

Designer's Note
My grandmother taught me to play cards. My grandfather taught me to invest. Market Fortune combines both: a game of reading opponents, managing risk, and making decisions under pressure — where the cards you hold matter less than how consciously you play them.
