The concept is well known: Try to form three criteria of the same type in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line. But be careful: in XOXO, you share a common display and don't want to place tiles that benefit the others. However, with a good nose and a little luck, you can achieve your goals before the others.
Gameplay:
On your turn, you must place 1 tile face up in the middle of the table, respecting the following rules:
- You must choose either the top tile from your stack or the top tile from the shared stack.
- The first tile played is the start of the common display, which will end up being exactly 3x3 tiles big.
- Each additional tile must always be placed horizontally or vertically next to tiles that are already laid out.
Important: As soon as the shared display consists of exactly 9 tiles (=3x3 tiles in size) you must place all further tiles on tiles that are already laid out.
Fulfilling a goal card:
You may fulfill 1 goal card at any time, regardless of whose turn it is. If a criterion (color, shape, or face) of one of your goal cards appears 3 times in a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line in the common display, you may show the corresponding goal card and place it face up in front of you.
The game ends immediately when either
- someone fulfills their last goal card. That person wins.
or
- any stack of tiles is used up. In this case, the player who has currently fulfilled the most objective cards wins.
