The sheep, with four different colours wool, are grazing in a circle around the table, spread across grass fields and players’ stable fields. Each player controls a stable made up of two fences placed in front of them, while the spaces between players form shared grass fields that also hold sheep.

Players aim to collect sets of sheep of the same colour in their own stable fields. By scoring sheep the player earns small bonusses to be used in future rounds.
On your turn, you place one fence on top of an existing fence anywhere around the table — either on one of your own fences or on an opponent’s. Each fence shows arrows indicating which sheep colours jump to the left and which jump to the right when that fence is activated.
After placing a fence, you immediately activate it and move the indicated sheep. Then, you also activate your own fence or fences that have not yet been activated this turn.
There are four different sheep breeds, each with its own special behaviour. Some sheep may bring another sheep along when they move, while others will kick a sheep out of a field when they arrive. Mastering these unique behaviours — and predicting how they interact — is key to clever herding, and scoring.

Variant: The Wolf
For players seeking a tougher challenge, the Wolf can be added. Each turn, the wolf prowls the Highlands and steals sheep from the fields, leaving less to lead into the stable.

Stubborn Sheep is a tactical game of positioning, timing, and controlled chaos, where every fence placement can shift the balance — and no sheep ever goes exactly where you expect.
